Please help me welcome Susan Scott Shelley to the author spotlight stage! Susan is from Philadelphia, PA.
Describe your books/your writing for the readers.
Susan Scott Shelley writes stories with heat, heart, and happily ever after that celebrate love without limits.
Tell us about your writing process. Where do your ideas come from? Do you plan/plot or totally wing it?
Ideas and inspiration are everywhere! I’m definitely a plotter when it comes to planning out a book. My process is to plot it all out first, so I know where I’m going. I have another job (I’m a voiceover artist), so my writing schedule fits around that. I could be writing at 2pm or 2am. I am most comfortable writing sitting crosslegged at my desk, with an enormous cup of tea or coffee, and a blanket draped around me.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
One of my earliest memories is of sitting with my mom while she read out loud to me and my siblings. Those words created images in my head, and that showed me the power of words.
What is your favorite childhood book?
I loved The Secret Garden.
What is one of the best feelings in the world?
The happiness I feel when I’m spending time with my significant other is honestly the best feeling in the world.
If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?
This is tough for me, because I’m very conflict-adverse and would hope they’d all be nice. I’d like to think parrots would naturally be sarcastic and snarky.
What’s a sound you absolutely love?
The cawing of crows. We have several in my neighborhood, and whenever I see or hear them, it seems magical.
Favorite snack while writing?
I don’t eat while writing because I loathe getting crumbs and smudges on the keyboard. 🙂
Favorite drink when writing?
An enormous mug of coffee or hot tea.
Favorite scent?
I love ocean scents. And also, pumpkin spice.
If someone is new to your writing, which book would you suggest they start with?
Mad Scramble. It’s an in love with my teammate’s brother football romance.
