Author Spotlight – Madalyn George

Please help me welcome Madalyn George to the LGBTQIA Author Spotlight. She comes to us from the Mid-Atlantic, USA.

Describe your books/your writing for the readers.

I write (mostly) low-angst, (hopefully) funny, light and fluffy happily ever afters.

What is something that makes you unique (personally or within your writing)?

When writing *those* scenes, I often like to pepper a moment of awkwardness or real life into the scene, so that the main characters don’t come off as perfect when they are having their perfect moments.

Tell us about your writing process. Where do your ideas come from? Do you plan/plot or totally wing it?

I have had stories floating around in my head since I can remember. Can’t wait for the next season of your favorite show? I’ve probably mapped it out in my head, especially if there’s a romance (or potential romance) involved. When I started this endeavor, I began by jotting many of those story ideas down. As for my writing process? Lately I’ve been trying to create and stick to outlines, but I find that I still end up winging it and veering off once I put pen to paper (or you know, fingers to keyboard).

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

In my day job, where I send email blasts and formal notices to thousands at a time, I learned early on how what you say and when you say it can matter. To this day I’m not the kind of person to fire off quick reply emails, thinking of every response as impactful snippets of writing.

What is your favorite childhood book?

My love of reading and dream of writing can be traced back to the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, which I devoured as a kid.

What is one of the best feelings in the world?

Though they are both older teens now, hearing my boys call me “mom” is still the best feeling in the world.

If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?

What’s a sound you absolutely love?

There’s a bird that screeches outside my window certain times of the year that reminds me of spending time at my grandparents’ home as a kid. It’s harsh and sharp, but holds such fond memories for me.

Favorite snack while writing?

Favorite drink when writing?

Favorite scent?

I still love the pine scent of the Christmas tree and it’s promise of time spent with good food, family and friends.

If someone is new to your writing, which book would you suggest they start with?

Jamie’s Light is my first full-length novel and it launches my Hampstead Valley Series. Meet Jamie and his family in this single dad, age-gap romance.
