Please help me welcome Kim Fielding to the LGBTQIA Author Spotlight. Kim comes to us from “the boring part of California”.
Describe your books/your writing for the readers.
Eclectic. I write in a lot of genres, and basically I write what I’m in the mood to read. In general, my stories tend to be strongly character driven. While some books are lighter than others, I usually put my characters through the wringer before they get their HEA.
What is something that makes you unique (personally or within your writing)?
My day job is criminal justice professor, which sometimes colors my writing. I also love to travel, so my stories are often heavily influenced by places I’ve visited.
Tell us about your writing process. Where do your ideas come from? Do you plan/plot or totally wing it?
My brain is like a bird, hopping around, picking up shiny ideas, and stowing them away for later. I find the ideas everywhere: things I see and hear during my travels, or while listening to conversations or reading the news or poking around in research rabbit holes. I have way more ideas than I’ll ever have time to write!
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power? XX
What is your favorite childhood book?
Oh, I have so many! But I’ll choose one: The Phantom Tollbooth.
What is one of the best feelings in the world?
Crossing something off my To Do list!
If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?
Cats. I love them, but they are not polite and they wouldn’t bother with social niceties.
What’s a sound you absolutely love?
Waves crashing on the beach.
Favorite snack while writing? XX
Favorite drink when writing?
Tea. So much tea. Hot or iced, depending on the season.
Favorite scent?
Baking bread.
If someone is new to your writing, which book would you suggest they start with?
I’d say Brute if they prefer fantasy and Rattlesnake if they’d rather read contemporary.
Where can readers find your books?
